MDEP Highlights
April 12, 2010
Today’s MDEP Highlight demonstrates the capabilities of the MDEP evaluation
equipment. In the example evaluation report below obvious wavy lines are
visible in several portions of the MIR 120 Second 5-Gas Transient Procedure.
These wavy lines represent the engine revving up and down during idle. In
many cases this type of engine behavior may not be noticeable to an observer yet
the MDEP equipment plainly records the small changes in engine combustion.
In this specific case the engine does not idle steadily but has a small variance
caused by the engines governor.
The capability of the MDEP equipment to pick up small changes in combustion,
such as these, is a powerful tool that is used to identify and diagnose even the
smallest changes and differences in an engines combustion. The MDEP equipments precision is
also used to ensure that every MDEP evaluation is performed correctly by each
technician in the field. If the
MDEP procedure is not followed correctly the MIR 120 Second 5-Gas results will
quickly show any deviations from the standard evaluation procedures ensuring
that all MDEP results meet the standard.
