MDEP Highlights
September 24, 2009
Today’s MDEP Highlight demonstrates a successful installation of C-Max
technology resulting in over 4,500 gallons of fuel savings per year. A large Caterpillar 992G loader was
equipped with a C-Max to reduce over-fueling and improve engine combustion. MDEP evaluations were performed on
the left and right exhaust stacks of this engine in order to record the
improvements in combustion after installing a C-Max unit. The results were impressive with an
average DPM reduction on right and left stacks from around 40% down to 6%. The resulting savings were calculated
at 4,597 gallons of fuel per year and a
particulate reduction of 1,862 lbs. per year. The
following MDEP reports show how the engines combustion was improved on both the
left and right exhaust stacks of the engine.
This engine is a good example of just how much of an impact can be realized when
the proper adjustments are made to fine tune an engine’s combustion.
