MDEP Highlights
January 16, 2009
Past MDEP highlights have focused on managing engine combustion. This week’s highlight is an example of how
a company’s economics can be affected positively by maintaining efficient engine
combustion.
This is a 90 day fuel savings study that was conducted between September and
December 2008. After the baseline MDEP,
professional Caterpillar mechanics made the appropriate adjustments and part
replacements as were indicated by the MDEP results. This allows for the engine
to be running as efficient as it can be. Fuel usage data was taken from each
engine’s computer and the fuel usage was compared before (ORIGINAL) and with the
C-Max installed. Each C-Max was installed
and programmed by trained MDEP Caterpillar technicians. Mirenco’s C-Max is programmed to each
individual engine’s specific MDEP combustion results to maximize fuel economy.
A fuel cost of $1.50 per gallon is a conservative non-taxed fleet rate as of
December, 2008. The four vehicles
presented in the chart below represent a total fuel savings of $51,000.00 per
year.
