Mirenco Launches New Speed Control Product
RADCLIFFE, Iowa--Mirenco, Inc., announces the launch of a new product aimed at
improving safety and reducing driveline maintenance costs for electronic,
diesel-powered shuttle buses, paratransit vehicles, and rental vans.
The new product is PSC, which stands for Programmable Speed Control. PSC will
give its customers control over a vehicle's rate of acceleration and top speed
through a throttle delay that can be programmed with a hand-held computer. PSC
improves safety for both drivers and passengers and reduces fuel costs at a time
when diesel fuel is hovering at or near record prices in many parts of the
country.
PSC also could save thousands of dollars over the life of a vehicle by
eliminating driveline maintenance problems, such as broken axles, universal
joints, and differentials. PSC also will extend the life of a vehicle's engine,
transmission, brakes, and tires.
Mirenco believes the Programmable Speed Control will fill a niche market among
diesel customers with a gross vehicle weight of 20,000 pounds or less. These
vehicles typically have much more power than is necessary for that weight class,
which often results in excess speed. That can lead to dangerous conditions for
passengers and high maintenance costs.
At first glance, PSC may appear to function like a governor. But PSC has some
important distinctions from a mechanical governor. PSC works with electronic
diesel engines, has multiple parameters that affect the rate of torque and
top-end speed, and can easily be reprogrammed with a hand-held computer.
"Mirenco is excited to launch the Programmable Speed Control. We are confident
that this product will significantly improve passenger safety and reduce
driveline maintenance costs," said Mirenco CEO Dwayne Fosseen.
