Mirenco Establishes First Canadian Distributor
RADCLIFFE, Iowa--March 12, 2003--Mirenco, Inc., (OTCBB:MREO) an Iowa-based
company that specializes in vehicle management technology for improving fuel
efficiency and reducing vehicle emissions in diesel engines, has established its
first-ever Canadian distributor for its DriverMax system.
Mirenco will sell its emissions-reducing DriverMax system through Grant Brothers
Sales Ltd. in metropolitan Toronto, Ontario. Grant Brothers Sales is one of
Canada's largest manufacturers' representatives for heavy-duty diesel and
automotive parts.
"Mirenco is eager to tap into the heavy-duty diesel market in Toronto
through our new relationship with Grant Brothers Sales," said Mirenco CEO Dwayne
Fosseen. "This is a great opportunity to sell our DriverMax technology because
of Ontario's progressive clean-air standards and their strict enforcement of
heavy emitters."
Ontario's Drive Clean program requires diesel transit buses, school buses, and
trucks to pass a strict clean-air standard before drivers are eligible to renew
their license plates. The Drive Clean program requires opacity of 55 percent or
lower for 1990 and older vehicles and 40 percent or lower for 1991 and newer
vehicles. Opacity measures the amount of light that is blocked by soot and other
particulate matter in tailpipe exhaust.
The Drive Clean program also conducts random on-road inspections to find
heavy-polluting vehicles that are driving through Ontario but are not registered
there.
By preventing unburned fuel from going out the tailpipe, Mirenco's DriverMax
significantly reduces diesel particulate matter emissions while it improves fuel
efficiency. DriverMax matches a vehicle's throttle to the load required of an
engine through a programmable throttle delay. DriverMax has reduced emissions by
40 to 75 percent in transit systems in Louisville, Ky. and Grand Canyon National
Park. It also saves an estimated 780 gallons of fuel annually per bus for a
transit system in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Grant Brothers initially will sell the DriverMax system to heavy-duty diesel
fleets in the Toronto market, where half of the largest 100 diesel fleets in
Canada are based. "We are excited for this opportunity to sell Mirenco's
DriverMax technology through our extensive network in the heavy-duty diesel
engine market in Toronto," said John Grant, president and CEO of Grant Brothers
Sales in Mississauga, Ontario.
Mirenco and Grant Brothers established a business relationship largely through
the assistance of the U.S. Department of Commerce, which helps U.S. companies
find prospective international trade partners. "I commend the U.S. Department of
Commerce for their hard work in opening doors on behalf of Mirenco," said
Fosseen, Mirenco's CEO.
