TARC Achieves Success through Combustion Management
Program
Radcliffe, IA - After two and one-half years, a business
partnership between Mirenco (OTCBB: MREO) and Louisville’s Transit Authority of
River City (TARC) has resulted in a real environment winner by reducing tailpipe
emissions over 75%. TARC maintenance director Jimmy Buckner describes the
success, "Mirenco tailpipe exhaust analysis program made us aware of the
individual engine problem. With their data we now can proactively fine-tune each
diesel engine, based on real time combustion deterioration." Mirenco’s
professional combustion analysis program, links the Federal transient engine
certification, the SAE J-1667 procedure and real time engine combustion
management.
Louisville tailpipe emission testing and reports are performed three times a
year. This ongoing and continuous emission testing is incorporated into TARC’s
fleet combustion analysis program at a cost of forty-five dollars per vehicle
per test. TARC management then reviews testing results and vehicles needing
service are scheduled for maintenance. One silver bullet the Louisville fleet
has over other public transit fleets is their decision to incorporate Mirenco
DriverMax fuel management system on approximately half of their buses. This
device allows TARC’s maintenance department the option to reduce the fuel flow
to the engine prior to the time consuming, expensive, option of tearing into the
internal parts of the engine. In other words, if the engine has worn to the
point where normal maintenance service cannot achieve the expected emission and
performance level from the vehicle, TARC can proportionally reduce the available
fuel flow from the vehicle’s fuel tank by using Mirenco’s DriverMax hardware and
software.
Building on the success achieved by Louisville’s public transit fleet, Mirenco
is currently completing real time, baseline, particulate emission testing
involving one of the largest transportation fleets in Iowa totaling 6,000 diesel
powered vehicles. The new Iowa Tailpipe Program includes continued tailpipe
testing, reports, and DriverMax units priced into a five-year analysis program.
This Iowa fleet has the potential to achieve the same level of success TARC of
Louisville has made in combustion management. Tailpipe pollution from this Iowa
fleet could be reduced by up to 5600 tons over the five-year program. It is
anticipated many more Iowa fleets will join the Iowa tailpipe program as
information and progress unfolds.
