Mirenco Accepts Invitation To Present At Mining Diesel Emissions Conference
Mining Regulations Call for Advanced Technology to
Reduce Diesel Particulate Matter
Radcliffe, IA – August 31, 2001 – Mirenco (OTCBB: MREO) is pleased to announce
they have been formally invited to present and provide a
white paper
at the Mining Diesel Emissions Conference (MDEC) held November 6-8, 2001 in
Markham, Ontario.
Mirenco recently conducted a series of controlled, enclosed environment tests
using mining equipment to measure Diesel Particulate Matter (DPM) accumulation.
Mirenco’s technology consistently reduced the DPM accumulation by 75% (measured
at both PM 10 and PM 2.5 levels). The results were also obtained with a
negligible loss of power and a projected fuel savings of approximately 5%.
As follow up to these series of tests and in consideration for the July 2002
change in federal regulations regarding DPM for the mining industry, Mirenco
presented their technology and enclosed environment performance to officials at
the Mining Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) and the National Institute
for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).
"We are excited to be a part of this year’s MDEC and have the opportunity to
help the mining industry comply with the upcoming regulations," said Dwayne
Fosseen, Chairman & CEO of Mirenco, further commenting on the invitation, "The
underground mine environment presents unique issues in regards to employee
health and safety. Mirenco’s technology provides an immediate and cost effective
answer to aid the mining industry in protecting workers from the hazardous
effects of DPM."
Mirenco’s technology was designed under a joint development agreement with the
United States Department of Energy Kansas City Plant Operated by Honeywell
(DOE). The technology has received the DOE’s "Energy-100" Award, carries both
the DOE seal and a California Air Resource Board (CARB) Exemption, and is
patented in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
Additionally, Mr. Fosseen added, "We’re not a screen, filter, scrubber, or any
other type of after-treatment. We eliminate the DPM problem before it happens.
And, we offer the welcomed by-product of fuel savings, so the payback comes both
financially and in terms of improved air quality."
Mirenco has traditionally approached heavy duty diesel vehicle market niches
such as city transit authorities, waste management trucks, buses,
tractor-trailer fleets, etc. The mining industry represents a new and additional
market for Mirenco’s technology. Commenting on the mining market and
regulations, Mr. Fosseen stated, “There are thousands of mines in the U.S. with
thousands and thousands of diesel vehicles operating underground. We intend on
being the best price performance solution as these mines are obligated to comply
with the new regulations. When they begin to calculate their cost of compliance
and consider the available solutions, we think our solution will be a hands down
winner."
