Mirenco DriverMax Gains Momentum

DriverMax Promises to Revolutionize Throttle Management

A small-town business based in Radcliffe, Iowa, is developing several new products whose impact will reach far beyond this central Iowa town. One is DriverMax.

A Canadian bus manufacturer has just signed a contract to install DriverMax on all new buses produced in its Ontario plant. DriverMax, a simple black box that increases fuel economy while controlling emissions, can also easily be installed on existing engines.

It was designed by the Department of Energy under terms of patents owned by Dwayne Fosseen, President and CEO of Mirenco. The development company is headquartered in a simple grey wooden building near the main business district in Radcliffe, population 574.

Fosseen lives with his family on the farm near Radcliffe that was settled by his Norwegian great-grandfather. Although he no longer farms himself, Fosseen’s first invention in 1964 was an auxiliary fuel tank for farm tractors. In 1967 he started Fosseen Manufacturing.

Now he holds several patents for vehicle energy-and conservation-related technology issues in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. Mirenco, Inc. a worldwide distribution company, was formed in 1997.

What’s being distributed are products that the farmer/inventor businessman has been working on since 1976. “When the world had the last oil crisis, I decided there might be a need for simple solutions to improve vehicle exhaust emissions and increase fuel mileage,” Fosseen states.

DriverMax units are being installed, tested, and sold to cities for use on their buses in St. Louis, Memphis, Chicago, and several other large cities, nationally and internationally for air quality programs. The black box can also be used on passenger cars and trucks.

While there have been devices in the past to control fuel consumption, “nobody has addressed the human error factor of vehicle throttle positioning,” notes Fosseen, “and now we can do that with our smart computer box.”

Fosseen is excited about what DriverMax could do for transportation but is also enthusiastic about the impact this could have on this rural area. “I think that the time is coming that we’re going to see lots of people realizing what we have here that can improve fuel mileage and reduce emissions,” he states confidentially.
