Many people hear and read that Mirenco is able to save, on average, 5 to 10
percent of fuel usage through our Mirenco Diesel Evaluation Procedure (MDEP
) and
by the application of
C-Max or D-Max
technologies. Often times the person is
unaware of just how this works and assumes there is some magical means to
accomplishing this. One of the most common questions is: Can I save 5 to 10
percent of fuel on everything that I perform MDEP on or install a C-Max or D-Max
on?
It is questions like that which remind me how you must first educate a customer
on how the process works before they understand how a savings of 5 to 10 percent
on average is accomplished. MDEP is a diagnostic tool designed as a preventative
approach that can diagnose an engine’s combustion health issues and use that
information to prevent future problems through corrective action today.
Performing a MDEP on an engine will accomplish nothing if no further action is
taken. Performing a MDEP is like
taking an x-ray. An x-ray doesn’t heal a person, but instead the x-ray provides
the doctor with the information they need to properly treat the patient. In the
same way, MDEP provides the mechanic with the information needed to properly
adjust or repair an engine’s combustion.
MDEP was designed to be applied to a fleet of engines. MDEP results from an
entire fleet provide a mechanic with the information needed to identify those
engines that need attention and those that do not. For those engines that do not
need attention no further action is taken after the MDEP is performed. On these
engines there is no change in fuel consumption and no savings. On those engines
that are diagnosed with combustion problems a mechanic must make the proper
adjustments or repairs as indicated by the
MDEP results
in order for any fuel
savings to be realized. It is from those engines that are diagnosed through MDEP
and then adjusted or repaired that you will benefit from, on average, 5 to 10
percent in fuel savings. Depending on the combustion problem and severity, fuel
savings can be less or much greater than the average of 5 to 10 percent.
